Albert L. Flores, 66, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many who knew him as Clyde, passed away Friday, December 6, 2013, at a local medical center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church, 2525 Westview, Abilene, with Father Terry Brenon officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory Street, Abilene. Serving as pallbearers will be Xavier Flores, Ruben De La Garza Jr., Randy De La Garza, Albert Nieto, Mario Nieto Jr., Isaac Ramos, Clarence “Bubba” Brown, and Serapio Nieto. Open visitation will be Monday from 8:00 to 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m. followed by a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Albert was born June 14, 1947 to Miguel G. Flores, Sr. and Julia Leyva Flores in Mariposa, Texas. He married Dolores Herrera on August 4, 1967, and they had recently celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary. Albert served his country in the United States Navy and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a member of St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church, Charter member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of Abilene Bowling League.
Albert was a family man who put others first; his family was always his top priority. His happiest moments were spent surrounded with his large family. He was also a big sports fan who really enjoyed football. He spent many Sundays with his Bro’s, nephews and close friends watching the Dallas Cowboys. Albert was loved dearly by all of his family and friends and he will be greatly missed. The loss of Albert will deeply affect many because he made all of his loved ones a priority in his life. We will continue to love one another as he loved us. With heavy hearts, we say goodbye for now, knowing we will all reunite, and next time it will be eternal life as God has promised.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Miguel G. and Julia L. Flores; brothers, Miguel Flores, Jr. and Javier Flores; and a sister, Rosita Flores.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores H. Flores of Abilene; daughter, Sylvia Martinez and son-in-law, Greg Martinez of Grand Prairie, Texas and daughter, Rosie Flores of Abilene; grandchildren, Jocelyn and Xavier “Javi” Flores; brothers, Joe Flores Sr., and Salome Flores of Abilene; sisters, Lupe Loza, Alicia Flores, and Sandy Martinez, all of Abilene, Carmela Nieto of Hawley, Texas, Aurora Fernandez of San Angelo, Texas, Olivia Alarcon and Mary Nieto of Arlington, Texas, and Martha Acy of Mesquite, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
