Addie Lee Ford was born on July 6, 1929 in Edge, Texas to the late Ed Walker and Willie Wyatt. She crossed Jordan peacefully on December 1, 2022 in Temple, Texas and found that great peace at the close of a day.
Homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home 5701 US Highway 277 S. in Abilene with Vincent Lee Ford II officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6-8:00 PM also at the funeral home.
Addie was raised in Bryan, Texas by her mother and stepfather Pratt Koontz. She was educated in local schools in Bryan and went on to attend cosmetology school. She met a young airman Willie Edward Ford and the two married on December 1955. She followed her husband’s military career living in Louisiana, Oklahoma, New York, Florida, and twice in Texas. She abstained from accompany Willie to an overseas assignments for she did NOT fly. She settled in Abilene in early 1970’s. She worked many years for U.S Brass before retiring in 1995. In the early 80’s she joined Antioch C.M.E Church where she served on the Missionary Society. She was also a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 918. Addie enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She relished in being at home nurturing her family. Addie never hesitated to say how she felt and what was on her mind. It was with the same directness that she lovingly and sternly took care of her family. As her health started to declined over the past few years, there is peace knowing she is now free from its chains and united with her Lord and family members who have gone on before.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ed Walker; mother and stepfather, Pratt and Willie Koontz; her husband, SSgt. Willie Edward Ford, USAF(Ret.); her son, John Edward Ford; grandsons, Willie Steven Ford and Dennis Ester, Jr.; her siblings, Willie Herman Walker, Jamesanna Walker, Winnie Chambers, Homer Koontz, W.T Stewart, and Jessie Koontz.
She leaves to cherish precious memories, her children, Larry Darnell Ford, Gail Diane Freelon, Vincent Lee Ford (Marshey), and Steven Louis Ford (Debra); her brother, John C. Koontz; a host of loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces. Nephews other relatives and friends.
