Peter Albert Laurie

Peter was born in Niagara Falls, ON of Nov. 22, 1951, to Albert and Elisabeth Laurie, a younger brother to his sister Sharron.

His elementary school years were completed in Niagara Falls, Milwaukee, WI and Ft. Saskatchewan, AB. Peter attended boarding school at Concordia High School and College in Edmonton, AB., moving to Ft. Wayne, IN to complete college and enter Lutheran Seminary. Following a Billy Graham Crusade on TV Peter made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and decided to leave the Lutheran schooling and entered into a Discipleship Program in Vancouver.

Peter and Mary met while attending church in Surrey and were married on Feb. 16, 1974. The family grew as Aaron (1975) Adam (1977) and Sarah (1979) were born.

Peter worked in construction and roofing but always desired to be in pastoral ministry. After volunteering in a number of different churches and positions, Peter returned to Seminary in Fresno, CA. Following graduation, he pastored churches in Watrous, SK, Abbotsford and Greendale, BC. His heart was for people and he never tired of listening to and encouraging others.

Peter is pre-deceased by his parents, Albert & Elisabeth Laurie and infant granddaughter Natash Chapman. He is survived by his loving wife Mary of nearly 50 years, his children: Aaron & Lisa Laurie, Adam Laurie & Sandi Serruys, Sarah and Jeff Chapman; 7 grandchildren: Devin & Holly Neufeld-Laurie, Emma Laurie, Ethan Laurie, Kara Laurie Serruys, Chevelle & Matt Rempel, Alyssa Chapman and Keziah Chapman; 2 great-grandchildren; Charlotte & Roland Rempel; sister Sharron (Robert) Gidych; many nieces and nephews and too many friends to count.

A celebration of Peter's life will be held Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 11:00 AM at South Abbotsford Church, 32424 Huntingdon Road, Abbotsford, BC V2T5Z1.
