Very sad to hear about Pat....knew him from CP Rail where I also worked.....I just heard about it by reading the Concordia alumni magazine.

Benny knows that I rarely use Facebook but somehow my finger accidentally touched it open today and found this. Hope it's not too late to add a few words. Our memories with Pat over the years are all happy ones, his jokes, his laughs, his dance......He is away but these lovely moments will always stay with us. His smile will always be remembered.

Thanks to everyone for their condolences and well wishes, both here and at mass in Montreal.  It is really great to hear from so many people about the impact he had, and the good times he shared with all of you.
He was definitely all about having a good time ! 

With that in mind, we wanted to pass along that there will be a a memorial in Invermere (August 13, noon - 4pm) to  celebrate Pats life, stories and memories.  The attached image has the details if you're interested in attending.

We are one of Pat & Benny's close friend, we have been visiting and seeing each other many times a year if not monthly. After Pat & Benny moved to Invermere, they normally stayed with us whenever they visited Calgary. And we often visit Invermere as well. Last time our family in Invermere was this March during kids school spring break. Pat and I talked about this sickness, he just replied: "relax, no big deal, minor thing". Instead he was more concern about our kids fishing wish was not fulfilled due to frozen water in the lake. And of course, again, his hand made hamburger was delicious and everyone was happy of his BBQ skills. We could not believe this sickness took him away from us. As of now, we still cannot accept his passing away. We always think he was away on a trip only. Uncle Pat !!! we are missing your beautiful smile, of course your generous, kindness, jokes & fun drinking too. We were so lucky to have been part of Pat's life. We will stand side by side with Benny in this difficult time. We are together to be strong & love,  and would like to express our condolences to Mr. Pat's family.

Pat was a kind and generous person.  Eric and I are fortunately to have known him and grateful to call him a friend.  We had some wonderful memories in China.  Pat always had a good sense of humor.  His "90 percent rule" about China was spot on.  He has always had a great attitude towards life and living.  It is something we can all learn from.  

Our thoughts go to his entire family, especially Benny and Bret!  You guys stay strong!

We would like to extend our deepest sympathies & condolences to Benny, Brett & family. We will greatly miss Pat's  generous nature & spirit, his outrageous and numerous stories of his life experiences, his constant banter with those around him and his wonderful sense of humour. We had the great pleasure of accompanying Pat and Benny to China a couple of years ago & will always remember and appreciate the efforts of both Pat & Benny to make our trip experience so memorable. Nothing was ever too much trouble to ensure that the we got the full China experience. Even with his limited Mandarin he was able to interact with Chinese citizens wherever we went bringing laughter & smiles to their faces. We feel so blessed and privileged to have known Pat over the years.

To the Lawton family:  my deepest sympathy on your loss. Knew Pat first through the NDG park leagues and later at Loyola High School and the last time I saw him, on a golf trip to California in the late 1980s. Pat was a fine individual and great fun to be around.

I have the best memories of sitting in the stands with Les in our first year at Loyola High watching his big brother Pat play senior hockey with the Warriors. I wish to convey at this unbelievably sad time, my message of strength, love and peace for Benny, Brett, Laura, Regan, Rennie, Les, Laurel and Shawn.  My extended blessings and deepest sympathies go out to the entire Lawton family.  As Pat's spouse we shared 20 years together and had our son, Brett, who is our pride and joy.  We remained good friends after our relationship ended and we saw each other from time to time over the past 15 years.  The last time we had a family lunch was in April 2016 in Sidney, who would have ever thought it would be the final time we would laugh together.   I have been blessed to have been a part of Pat's life.   He is at Peace.

It was with great sadness when we heard of Pat's passing. You are all in our prayers during this difficult time. Please accept our heartfelt condolences.

I was also a colleague of Pat at CP and always enjoyed his perspective and in particular, his sense of humor. We had a great time together celebrating a sales contest with other co-workers at St Andrews By The Sea in New Brunswick. It was there that I came to appreciate Pat's irreverent side which I suspect served him well in helping others cope with the stresses of everyday life. Young at heart is was what comes to mind in remembering Pat.

I worked with Pat at Toronto's Union Station for CP Rail, what seems like eons ago. Much time has passed since then, but I've never forgotten how that fella could make me laugh. He was a great guy. Sorry he left us far too soon.
