Judith Alen Jean (Buchanan) Palmer passed away in the Abbotsford Regional Hospital June 27, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Judy was born July 24, 1939 in Port Alberni, British Columbia, the fourth child of 10 children born to Kenneth and Ruth Buchanan.
Judy’s greatest achievement if you asked her was the large loving family she created. She adored her six children: Gord (Glenda), Bill (Jackie), Mark (Linda), Joe (Terri), Candy and Tammy. Those 6 children added 14 grand children: Kurtis (Trisha), Jason, Amanda (Steve), Tara, Ben (Aleisha), Josh (Dani), Joey (Ashley), Kyle, Jeff (Arielle), Randy, Scott, Tyson, Patrick and Thomas. And those grandchildren added 9 great grand children: Emily, Jordyn, Brooklyn, Ethan, Boston, Dominic, Peyton, Addy and Maddox.
Judy learned the love of family from the large family she came from. She was more than just a sister to her brothers and sisters, she was their friend, confidant, comforter: Kenny (Charlotte), Margaret (Gary), Bob (Daph), Ruthie (Ed), Fran (Mouse), Sandi (Jack), Randy (Mary) and Mark.
Judy was pre-deceased by her parents Kenneth and Ruth Buchanan, her husband Tom Palmer, her brother Bob Buchanan and her sister Sandra Pughe.
Judy had many roles and jobs throughout her life:
After marrying Tom Palmer, she had a new role – mother, which I am sure she would say was her calling. She was the best mother a child could ask for and that role gave her the opportunity to become a grandmother and great grandmother. The only role she could have wanted as much as being a mother was being a grandmother.
Judy started working outside the house in 1972, first with Berryland Cannery and then various other jobs including restoration, cleaning houses with her sister Fran and starting her own company Judy’s Janitorial.
Judy loved to travel with family and friends. These trips included trips to Reno, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Nova Scotia, Arizona, Alaska, Nashville, Armstrong, Fraser Lake, Northwest Territories, Princeton, Victoria, Cold Lake, Calgary and Edmonton.
Her happy place she purchased in 2001 - Sitka 1 at Black Mountain Ranch. She spent many weekends and holidays there with great friends and family. Hours spent in her Gazebo playing games, spending time by the fire and potluck dinners at Chukker 5. Years spent as the Youth Committee, Labour Day festivities and parades, fund raising, golfing and so much more.
Another passion of Judy’s were games. It started as a youngster in the Buchanan family – Stupenego, Card Games and she passed that passion on to her children, grand children and great grand children – favourites at Grandma’s house were dice and stupenego and everyone was included, no one was too young to play!
A celebration of life for Judy will take place July 24, 2022 at 2 PM Clarion Hotel and Conference Centre 36035 North Parallel Road, Abbotsford BC. In lieu of flowers donations in Judy’s name for the Canadian Lung Association, Canadian Cancer Association or any charity of your choice.
