Edwin Weiss, of Abbotsford, BC, passed away on May 4, 2019. He is survived by his three children, Brent, Lorielle, and Mark (Leah); and the mother of his children, Irene. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren; and his sisters, Violet, Irene, Lil (Bud) and Betty (René).
Edwin was born on February 6, 1936 to Emanuel and Alma Weiss in the Brightholme District, in SK where he grew up with his four sisters, Violet, Irene, Lil, and Betty. He married Irene Lehmann on August 14, 1961. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Medicine Hat, AB where they purchased a beauty and barber shop, “Clip and Curl”, involving partnerships with Vi, Dick, Rex and Hannah Martin. Edwin became involved with “Hockey Hounds”, a company who promoted the Medicine Hat Junior Hockey Flames, some of whom moved on to the NHL. Edwin would cut player’s hair and then later ref games or be a linesman for the Junior and Juvenile Teams when needed. Some of Edwin’s and Irene’s best memories were raising their three children, Brent, Lorielle and Mark (Leah) in Medicine Hat. It was also where they met life-long friends. After 10 years, they were on the move to Kelowna, BC where they bought lakeside property and created many more cherished memories of water and snow skiing. It was also in Kelowna that REL construction was created and co-owned by René Goudal, Edwin Weiss and Lenard Braun. However, four years later, they were off to Shellbrook, SK. for new adventures where Ed and René continued in construction until they eventually went into partnership to own and operate Shellbrook Shop Rite Grocery Store. They lived on acreage not far from town and ventured into gardening and raising cows, chickens and horses. Their leisure time was spent with family at the Memorial Lake cabin. However, as their children grew up and moved away, by 1994 they moved to Prince George, BC to be closer to family and manage Tannisbrook Apartments. Edwin had a stroke in 1998, and eventually moved to Kamloops and the Abbotsford area to be close to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed being around family the most and looked forward to BBQs on the deck, camping trips, and relaxing by the pool. He was a member of the Legion and Eagles wherever he lived. Throughout his life, Edwin was not only a talented craftsman and designer, but was also a skilled golfer, water-skier, snow-skier, and hockey player. There wasn’t much he couldn’t fix or make. His zest for life helped him overcome many challenges in his life. Most importantly, he always did things on his terms and never gave up. A quality greatly admired by others. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday May 25, at 1:00 pm at Henderson's Fraser Valley Funeral Home, 34537 Marshall Road, Abbotsford BC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a donation in Edwin’s name, be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, BC Cancer Society or to a foundation of your choice.
