Edward John Haak, of Old Clayburn Road, Abbotsford, BC passed away on April 1, 2014 at the age of 82 after a brief battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Helen Haak, his first wife Elisabeth, his second son Don, and a great-grandson Josiah Haak. He is survived by his second wife Marie, children Dennis (Alita), (Bev), Lorne (Lydia), Gord (Chrystal), Betty-Lou Hildebrandt (Ron), stepson Brent Birch, 4 siblings, 17 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. Ed was born near Hepburn, Saskatchewan on October 6, 1931. The family moved to Black Creek,
Vancouver Island when he was 4 years old and later to the Mt. Lehman area when he was 16. Ed spent the early part of his career with H.B. Contracting supervising infrastructure projects such as pipelines, bridges, and reservoirs. In 1966 he purchased his father's dairy farm in Mt. Lehman, and over time expanded and improved the operation. He retired from farming in 1995. Ed volunteered for many years in his local church, as a music leader, choir member, and deacon. Ed will fondly be remembered as a follower of Jesus, an avid fisherman, a skilled handyman, and for his generosity to family, friends, neighbours, and those in need.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Chan, a number of specialists and the staff at the ACE and Oncology units of Abbotsford Regional Hospital who provided medical care for Ed during his final weeks. A memorial service was held at Ross Road Community Church on April 7, 2014. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made out to Compassion Canada or Transport for Christ.
