Audrey Annette Burns

August 20,1924 - May 27, 2017

Audrey was born in Star City, SK, to Roy and Ethel Wright, the middle child of 11 siblings, and moved to Tisdale, SK, where she spent her childhood. After business college, Audrey made the move to BC and worked at Seagram's Distillery in New Westminster. It was there she agreed to a blind date with her boss' brother, Bob Burns, and the two were married in 1950. They raised their 3 children in Burnaby, BC, where Audrey was a stay-at-home Mom until the youngest was in school then worked at the Burnaby School Board for the following 20 years. Audrey and Bob retired in Hope, BC, in 1986, building their dream log home in the Silver Creek area.

As a young woman, Audrey studied classical singing and continued to give recitals and sing in choirs throughout her life. She enjoyed books, music, curling, creative writing, crosswords, card games and shopping! Audrey treasured time spent with her beloved sister Vivian Pendree.

While in Hope, Audrey volunteered much of her time at Park Street Manor Seniors Residence, the Canadian Cancer Society, and the Fraser Canyon Hospital auxiliary as well as campaigning vigorously for local politicians and the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

A doting Grandma, Audrey adored her 5 grandchildren and took interest in their lives. Generous with her gifts and handmade cards, she always enjoyed her time with each of them and cherished their individuality.

Audrey is lovingly remembered by children Kim Ertman (Ken), Kathleen Burns (Ross Fraser), Robert Burns, grandchildren, Travis, Joe, Joshua, Alisyn, Madeline, as well as daughter-in-law Shirley Burns, pals Helen Fuchs and Bernie Simpson, her many nieces and nephews and the numerous good friends she made throughout her long, well-lived life.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Silver Byrne cabin, 19743 Foster Road, off Silver Hope Road, Hope, BC. Dress code: colourful!
