He is survived by his wife Sylvia, his brother John (Julia), his son David (Tara) and his daughter Heather (Nigel) along with his grandchildren Dana, Ryan, Braydon and Vivienne.
Although he was born in England, his family emigrated to Rhodesia in 1947 as after World War II life wasn’t so good in U.K. and prospects were better in this new country. His parents went into farming while both Colin and his brother grew up and were educated at Eagle and Peterhouse schools.
On leaving school he had the choice of becoming a Chartered Accountant or a Chartered Surveyor. He chose the accountancy world and after a brief sojourn in Switzerland to learn French, he joined the company Carter Son and White (now no longer) in London, England, where he articled and became a fully qualified Chartered Accountant (CPA) in 1967.
While in London he met Sylvia and they were married in September 1963. Both David and Heather were born in London and once Colin had qualified as a CPA, the family emigrated to Rhodesia in 1967. Colin joined the firm Peat Marwick Mitchell and Co. Chartered Accountants where it wasn’t long before he attained a partnership and remained with that company until leaving the country in 1981. The Rogers family then emigrated to Vancouver, Canada where Colin joined KPMG (formerly Peat Marwick Mitchell) and after a few years was made a Partner in the firm. He left KPMG in 1998 and after taking a break of four months of travel, returned to doing consultancy work which he really enjoyed.
On deciding to finally retire, Colin and Sylvia were able to enjoy spending the Canadian winters on Maui which is their favourite part of the world and within easy access of Vancouver. They also travelled extensively to visit family and friends in the U.K. and Africa.
Colin approached everything in life with a can-do attitude and offered many wise and encouraging words to anyone in need of advice. He was always ready to help solve any problem and his advice and counsel will be sorely missed. He was an inspiration to us all in his dedication to his family and to his friends. Some of the words that best describe him include, dependable, reliable, loving, determined and supportive.
As a Dad, Colin mentored and passed on his legacy to both his children in how to navigate life’s challenges and chart a path to success. To his friends, Colin (Huggy), could always be relied on for guidance, wise counsel, good times, companionship and laughter. Life-long friends or casual acquaintances were all treated equally with his embracing and infectious charm.
There aren’t enough words to describe Colin’s incredible life. He accomplished so many things which brought him both great joy and happiness resulting in a rewarding, loving and fulfilled life.
At last Colin is at peace and will be taken to rest in his favorite place - Maui.
