Anne Schmidt

Anne was born in Gnadenthal, Manitoba. At an early age she developed a love of music and sang in the school choir. At the age of 14 she moved to Yarrow, BC with her mother Elizabeth Fast and 5 siblings.

While in Yarrow, she recognized her need for a Savior, became a follower of Jesus and was baptized one year later at the age of 18. She remained steadfast in her faith until the end, which gives us the assurance that she is now in Heaven with her Savior.

She met Ben Schmidt in 1944 at a games night for his 21st birthday. Two years later on May 19, 1946, they were married. They started their life together in Abbotsford and after a couple of years they moved to a farm in Rosedale. In 1956 Ben changed careers and they moved to Chilliwack. They remained in Chilliwack until 1988 when they came back to Abbotsford.

Anne enjoyed singing in choirs, teaching Sunday School and working in girls’ clubs. Anne did many crafts such as needle point, quilting, ceramics, knitting and sewing. She was always involved in hospitality, whether at home or at their place on Okanagan Lake. She was a hostess extraordinaire. Their house was the hub of activity year around. They also enjoyed traveling to every continent, except Antarctica. Their winters were shortened by spending many weeks in Palm Springs over a 20-year period. In later years they organized several group vacations with their friends.

Anne was predeceased by her husband Ben Schmidt, infant son David Schmidt, and siblings Mary Fast, Helen Dahl, Jake Fast, John Fast and Frieda Reger. Lovingly remembered by her son Harvey (Helen) Schmidt, daughter Janet (Ralf) Gauer and, Grandchildren Kevin (Laura) Schmidt, Sharlayne (Steve) Fox, Ryan Gauer, Michael (Stefanie) Gauer and Crystal Gauer. She also had 10 Great Grandchildren.

There will be a private graveside memorial service.
