It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Kathleen “Kay” Rennie on July 22, 2010. The daughter of James and Annie Anderson, Kathleen was born in Netherhill, SK. Along with her sister, Grace, the family moved to Vancouver in 1944, where Kathleen attended normal school before taking a teaching position at Brittania Beach. She later moved to Hammond and in 1953 she married Doug Rennie, a young farmer from Matsqui and together they raised their six children on the original Rennie farm on Glenmore Road.
Kathleen was predeceased by her parents, her infant daughter Rosalie and sister, Grace Delday. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Doug, and six children: Alan and Myrna Rennie, Catherine and Essie Villaluz, Colin and Inge Rennie, Donald and Joyce Rennie, JoAnne and Keith Nelmes, all from Matsqui and Margaret and Tom Brent of Dewdney.
Kathleen also has 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren: Brandee and Mark Foster (Quentin), Amber Schellenberg (Kalysta and Ivory), Shaun and Jaime Rennie (Hunter and Amelia), Tyler Rennie, Megan and Dan Kalte, Marc, Cristina Rennie and Collin Burke, Tosh Rennie (Katrina), Keegan Brent, Alex Brent, Riley Nelmes, Kaitlyn Nelmes.
She is also survived by her brother-in-law, David Delday of Kindersley, SK, brother-in-law David Nalutka of Ashcroft, BC and many other relatives in BC and SK.
To all who knew her, Kathleen was known for her love of family and the manner in which she quietly lived her life with strength and charm. She showed us how to love and also to care and set an example that all would do well to follow. Although her life of the last few weeks was difficult, her sense of grace and dignity during this trying time was an inspiration and a true gift to the family that surrounded her. She will live forever in our hearts. Mom and Grandma, we will miss you.
A Celebration of Kathleen’s life will be held at Cascade Community Church, 35190 Delair Road, Abbotsford on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 11:00 am.
