History

Langevin El Paraiso Funeral Home was founded in January 1906 by Fred E. Shaw and A.L. Flint and operated as Flint-Shaw Funeral Home. It was located on N. 2nd St. in Yakima, Washington.

Many names

In 1928, it was renamed Shaw-Webb Funeral Home, and in 1940, it transitioned to Chapman-Poulin Funeral Home. Continuing its history, in 1953, it became Langevin-Meyer Funeral Home and then, following the death of Mr. Meyer, it was simply Langevin Funeral Home.

1010 West Yakima Avenue

In 1962, Larry Langevin formed a partnership with Lyle Mussetter and renamed the funeral home, Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. They built a new facility at 1010 W. Yakima Ave. In 1982, Royal Keith, Virgil Umbarger and Joe Merritt purchased the firm. In 1990, it became a member of the Dignity Memorial network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers.

Changing with the community

Twenty-four years later, recognizing a growing need and focus for multicultural services, the funeral home transitioned, extending the name and welcoming a bilingual team of associates to care for the Hispanic community. The funeral home now operates as Langevin El Paraiso Funeral Home.
