History

With roots dating back to 1925, Heritage Chapel Funeral Home has served families in Tuscaloosa and West Alabama with their funeral services for over 80 years.

Serving the early families of Tuscaloosa

In 1925, George Spigener and H. Grady Jones opened the Jones and Spigener Funeral Home in downtown Tuscaloosa, located near the present-day First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa. Jones and Spigener Funeral Home served residents in Tuscaloosa, Northport and West Alabama in its downtown location until 1960. In 1960, the funeral home relocated to a new facility at 1805 8th Avenue and through the years saw several name changes.

Upgrades, renovations and a new name

In August 1996, a beautiful state-of-the art facility was built at our current location on Old Birmingham Highway. To honor the rich heritage of service to the West Alabama area, the funeral home was rededicated as Heritage Chapel Funeral Home.

Continued high-quality standards

Today, we’re proud to be a member of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers. The Heritage funeral service tradition started in historic downtown Tuscaloosa with a commitment to the community and a high standard of service. Throughout our history, we have continued to lead and innovate while maintaining our reputation of providing caring service to our families.
