Humble beginnings

In 1915 J.E. Grammier came to Port Arthur as the city's first mortician. He had a dream of building a funeral home in Port Arthur that would rank high in the minds of his fellow citizens. The Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home of today is the realization of that dream.

Tradition of service

Celebration of life venue for services, gatherings and receptions at Grammier-Oberle Funeral HomeIn 1943 T.W. Oberle, a part-time employee at the funeral home, and his wife, Florence Bash Oberle, were given the opportunity to buy into Grammier Funeral Home as partners. Two years later they became the sole owners and changed our name to Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home.

In 1952 their son-in-law, W.J. Thompson, graduated from Dallas Institute of Funeral Services and joined the family business. In 1954 Oberle's son, Joe, a lawyer with the District Attorney's Office, joined the family business and served his apprenticeship at the funeral home.
