Cremation services

History

Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home was established in the 1930s, when Waddell Northington purchased an undertaking company from Lampasas Furniture Company. The business was located on the east side of the square in Burnet. The funeral home later moved to 306 East Polk St., where it is located today.

Soon after the move, Waddell hired Gene Clements to assist him in the business. During this time, ambulance service was added. In addition to using the hearse to deliver the deceased to the cemetery or train station, it was also used to transport the sick and injured to the local hospital or clinic.

In 1949, Gene purchased the business from Waddell and added a 250-seat chapel. He successfully continued the ambulance service and the funeral business until he retired 20 years later.

A tradition continues

In 1969, Bill and Janice Wilcox bought the funeral home and changed the name to Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home. To better serve the needs of people in the southern part of the county, Bill and Janice opened a funeral home in Marble Falls in 1975.

In about 1980, the ambulance service was taken over by the City of Burnet. Today, almost 90 years after its founding, the caring and dedicated team at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home continues to take care of friends and neighbors when they most need it.
