Part of Jardines y Funerarias del Angel, Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista honors your traditions with the utmost respect. We serve people of all cultures and religions, with expertise in Latino and Catholic tradition. In keeping with Mexican funeral traditions, we offer extended and overnight visitations at no additional cost.

The funeral home has 2 chapels: Chapel of Peace and Chapel of Angels. Both have beautiful stained-glass windows and seat up to 120 guests in pews. They are equipped with video projectors and excellent audio systems, so you can incorporate multimedia slideshows into a funeral or memorial service. Need help creating that? History

Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista opened on January 4, 1996, in the historic downtown area of Brownsville. The funeral home sits on the premises of Buena Vista Burial Park cemetery, which dates back more than 100 years.

Our founder’s legacy

When you walk through Buena Vista Burial Park, you will notice several graves dating to the 1800s. However, our cemetery wasn't officially established until the early 1900s, by Enrique F. Valentin. Enrique was originally from a Mexican border city and lived in Brownsville. He died in 1971 and is buried at Buena Vista Burial Park. The Valentin section of the cemetery honors his legacy.

The cemetery has changed ownership 3 times over the past century. In February 1995, Buena Vista Burial Park park joined the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers.

Buena Vista Burial Park cemetery

Buena Vista Burial Park has provided cemetery services to the Rio Grande Valley for more than a century. Since the early 1900s, we have served the communities of Brownsville, South Padre Island, Port Isabel, Los Fresnos, Los Indios, Rancho Viejo, Olmito and the entire Rio Grande Valley.

Variety of burial options

The cemetery offers a range of burial options: traditional in-ground interment, lawn crypts, cremation gardens, cremation niches, columbaria, mausoleums and private family estates.

When you enter the property, you’ll see our on-site funeral home, Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista, and the oldest part of the cemetery, which speaks to our long history with large headstones, crosses and religious figures. This area of the cemetery has many trees and a natural atmosphere.

There are 2 mausoleums on the property. The Chapel of Peace Mausoleum has both indoor and outdoor interments. The indoor accommodations provide a comfortable place for reflection, even during hot Texas summers. Glass niches provide display space for photographs and other personal artifacts. The garden surrounding the mausoleum is a peaceful place to reflect. The Serenity Mausoleum offers outdoor interments only. However, it does feature spaces for families who want to be entombed together.

Newer cemetery sections

As you go further into the cemetery, you’ll find newer sections with more open space and fewer trees. Flat and smaller markers in these sections allow for elegant landscaping with thriving flowers and plants.

Sections 11 and 12—where the Chapel of Serenity is located—were added in the early 2000s. These sections have cremation gardens with private columbaria and family estates. A large statue of an angel releasing a dove marks the top of the columbarium.

Buena Vista Burial Park is a perpetual care cemetery. It is beautifully manicured, and the team is always seeking to ensure it's as inviting as possible.

Remembrance events and more

Each month, Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista and Buena Vista Burial Park host a remembrance event for families who've suffered a loss that month. The event includes a prayer service and a balloon release, followed by food, fellowship, prizes and keepsakes.

Each holiday season, we place a large Tree of Remembrance in our lobby. Families are invited to bring pictures of their loved ones that we use to create ornaments to hang on the tree. Afterward, families enjoy a reception with tamales and other delicious foods. Each family gets an ornament to hang on their own tree at home.

We also celebrate Mother's Day and Día de los Muertos.
