History

Kraeer Funeral Homes and Cremation Centers have served Pompano Beach and the surrounding areas of Deerfield Beach and Lighthouse Point, Florida for more than 55 years. R. Jay Kraeer and his wife, Lorraine, opened their first funeral home at 200 N. Federal Highway in 1952. The handsome white building, although originally smaller than what stands today, is more than 58 years old and remains on the same corner. When R. Jay and Lorraine began, he was the funeral director while she took care of running the funeral home.

Growth and expansion

Kraeer Funeral Home was the first official funeral home in Pompano Beach and also the first provider of ambulance service in the area. R. Jay and Lorraine were also actively involved in Pompano Beach area community events. R. Jay opened several additional locations over the years: Boca Raton in 1957, Sample Road in 1962, Deerfield in 1964, Margate in 1972 and Coral Springs in 1980. See MoreSee Less
