Experts in Jewish funeral traditions
The traditional aspect of a Jewish funeral lies in the respect brought to the customs of the Jewish people, which date back thousands of years. Sinai Chapels' commitment to serving the Jewish community means that we are not only able to accommodate these needs but also anticipate them.
We are dedicated to providing comfort in your time of grief, guiding you step by step through the funeral process. Whether you choose a traditional or nontraditional service, our professionals will help to coordinate the customs you request—from contacting the chevra kadisha for tahara and shomrim to assisting with your shiva observance and arranging for the recitation of Kaddish—to create a service specific to your wishes.
Sinai Chapels works with all sects of Judaism: Orthodox, Conservative and Reform. We are uniquely equipped to care for all Jewish families, from the most meticulously halachically observant to the completely secular. We specialize in assisting families in creating services that include the observances and rituals most appropriate for them and their loved ones, whether in our chapels, at the graveside or in other locations.
No matter the level of religious observance of your family, our funeral home offers services that are ceremonially correct, appropriate to your family and dignified in every way.
To help your family determine the correct dates for yahrzeit, use our yahrzeit calculator.
Assistance with Jewish monuments
Our experienced associates can also coordinate every aspect of monuments for Jewish loved ones, from design to placement. Our services include:
- Professional surveys of the cemetery area.
- Rabbinic and technical supervision.
- Experienced artisans who create original monuments or can match or duplicate existing monuments.
- A complete understanding of the regulations of all area cemeteries and burial societies.
Funeral planning in advance
Many families seeking information for estate planning find that arranging funeral services in advance offers peace of mind for themselves and their families.
Advance funeral planning allows you to make clear-headed, stress-free decisions about which type of service you desire. You may also customize and personalize your service by making your wishes known. You can consider your interests, your personality and preferences, including readings or songs that are meaningful and important. These are things that are truly special to you.
When you plan ahead, you also remove the burden of decisions and financial stress from your family.
Committed to the Jewish community
Sinai Chapels has a long history of philanthropy in the Jewish community. This has included support of the Queens College Center for Jewish Studies annual Kristallnacht Commemoration and Recommitment to Combating Anti-Semitism, the Kupferberg Holocaust Center at Queens Community College, UJA-Federation of New York, and the Queens Jewish Community Council.
In 2022, Sinai Chapels became part of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral and cemetery providers, when owner Michael Resnick decided to spend more time with his family after 40 years of personal commitment serving Sinai Chapels families. We are now serving those families at two convenient locations, upholding a legacy of philanthropy and personalized care.
Sinai Chapels in Forest Hills, Queens, shares an address with Schwartz Brothers-Jeffer Memorial Chapels and Parkside Memorial Chapels. Our sister location in Great Neck, New York, shares an address with Riverside-Nassau North Chapels. Michael will continue to care for families in their time of need as a consultant, alongside several of Sinai Chapels' longtime funeral directors who have transitioned to the new Forest Hills and Great Neck locations.
Here for you
The dedicated associates of Sinai Chapels are here for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please reach out to us, day or night, if we may assist with funeral arrangements in New York or if you would simply like a tour of the funeral home.
