History

We have a long history of helping people in their times of need. In fact, Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home has its origins dating back to nearly a century ago.

Father and son legacy

During the 1918-1919 influenza pandemic that left 675,000 in the United States dead, John J. Quinn Sr. was a teenager responsible for driving horsedrawn wagons to assist in the removal of the dead from their residences. This led him to become involved in several funeral establishments, and eventually he opened John J. Quinn Funeral Home in Orange, New Jersey. When John died in 1955, his son, John J. Quinn Jr., took over and built a successful business serving the residents in Orange.

The Hopping impact

Meanwhile, Wes Hopping opened the Hopping Funeral Home in Livingston, New Jersey, in 1945. After World War II, several people began leaving the busy metropolitan areas and moved into new affordable homes in the previously rural area of Livingston—and the town began to grow. As Wes made plans to sell his establishment, John Jr. realized the future potential of this thriving community. John Jr. purchased Hopping Funeral Home 1962 and began an aggressive construction project to increase the size of the Hopping Funeral Home in order to better serve the growing Livingston community. The success of the 2 funeral homes allowed John Jr. to build larger buildings on the Toms River: first in the 70s and again in the 80s at the current location on Mule Road.

The family business continues

John Jr. and his 2 sons, John J. Quinn III and Kevin Quinn, purchased more funeral homes in Bergen, Hudson, Sussex and Ocean Counties in the 80s. During this time, the original Hopping Funeral Home became the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston. In 1997, the Quinn Hopping family of funeral homes joined the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery services.
