History

Evangeline Funeral Home has been an historical fixture in New Iberia, Louisiana, for many years. It has not always been a funeral home, as it was a private residence when built. The 2-story antebellum home was built between 1901 and 1904 by the Dietlein Family on its original site on East Saint Peter Street.

A growing business

In 1940, the home was purchased by the Cletus Landry family and opened in 1941 as Evangeline Funeral Home. As the years went by and business grew, locations were opened in St. Martinville in 1951 and Delcambre in 1960. In 1955, additional parlor space was added to the New Iberia location.

On November 6, 1986, Dalton L. Babineaux Jr. purchased the funeral home from the Landry family and operated the business until July 1, 1997.

Evangeline Funeral HomeIn 2007, Evangeline Funeral Home joined the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers. With more than a half century of service, Evangeline Funeral Home still upholds the tradition of exceptional service and care set forth by the Landry family while responding to the evolving needs of the New Iberia community.
