Our modern funeral home

Located in a peaceful, convenient setting, our modern red brick funeral home has ample parking and a beautifully landscaped entrance. Spacious, light filled and well-appointed, DeYoung Shoreline Chapel is a comfortable, welcoming place to plan a funeral or memorial.

Our chapel seats about 150 guests and has a separate seating area for the family. It includes state-of-the-art audio and video equipment for multimedia presentations. DeYoung Shoreline Chapel also has plenty of room for gathering with friends and family. Should you wish to host coffee and tea, wine and cheese, or even lunch or dinner, we can handle food and beverage catering.

History

In 1888, James Ford (father-in-law of C.C. "Mike" DeYoung) opened what he called his "undertaking establishment" at 117 S. Center St. in Stockton. In 1905, as the business grew and the city's population began to shift, James moved the funeral home to the corner of Washington and San Joaquin streets.

Thriving in Stockton

Around 1912, the thriving family business was operated by the partnership of Dennis O'Keefe and Mike. However in 1916, Chester Conklin purchased O'Keefe's interest in the company and the partners changed the funeral home name to DeYoung and Conklin.

In 1926, Chester died, leaving Mike as sole proprietor. Eleven years later, the family firm's name was changed again to DeYoung Memorial Chapel, and it moved to its current location at 601 N. California St. in Stockton.

In 1990, DeYoung Memorial Chapel opened a 2nd location: DeYoung Shoreline Chapel, at 7676 Shoreline Drive in Stockton. To date, DeYoung Shoreline Chapel is still the only funeral home in North Stockton.

Our funeral homes today

For more than 80 years, 4 generations of the DeYoung family (James Ford, C.C. "Mike" DeYoung, C.K. "Bud" DeYoung and Mike Heffernan) operated the DeYoung funeral homes. In 2014, they became part of the Dignity Memorial® network of obituary, funeral, burial, cremation and cemetery service providers.

Today, DeYoung Memorial Chapel and DeYoung Shoreline Chapel remain the cornerstone of funeral services in Stockton, maintaining a legacy of excellence and following in the footsteps of their founders by giving back to the community in which we live and work.
