Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens

Options include interment of cremated remains, above-ground entombment and family estates that create a place for generations to return in remembrance. Our cemetery team can guide you through monument selection, as well as finding the right garden for a final resting place.

History

Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens began as a cemetery in Auburndale, Florida. In the early 1950s, Glen Abbey was established to serve the surrounding communities of Winter Haven and Lackland, giving Florida families a local burial option. In the mid-1980s, expansion saw the addition of a funeral home.

Dedicated funeral and memorial services

Powell Ott and Victor Laughlin founded Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home in 1933, creating a funeral home in Winter Haven to serve local Florida families. They conducted their first funeral on August 5 of that year. Together, they served families at the funeral home together until Ott was called to duty in World War II. Laughlin retired in the early 1950s, while Ott continued at the funeral home until 6 weeks before his death in 1998.

Although his name was never on the door, Edmond Viertel was a faithful colleague. He started working for the funeral home in 1935 and worked up until his death in 1995. Eddie G. Allen met Ott in the early 1980s, crediting him as the reason he joined the funeral profession today. Over the years, Eddie witnessed Ott’s compassion and patience with families in their time of loss. He was a true Southern gentleman and a mentor to Eddie, who retired in 2019 but will also have a lasting impact on the business.
