A lovely, accommodating funeral home

Located off I-10, just a few miles from Tempe, our spacious funeral home has a modern Southwestern lodge-themed interior. It's surrounded by the lush gardens and broad green lawns of the cemetery and seems like a refuge from the hustle and bustle of the nearby city.

The funeral home's nondenominational Chapel of Reflection opened in 1997. Vaulted ceilings accentuate the chapel’s beautiful wood ceiling planks and exposed beams. Black ironwork complements the chapel’s amber-colored wood. Rustic pendant lights illuminate evening services. The chapel seats up to 200 guests and has new technology for music and video tributes. In addition, we have space for a reception before or after a service. Catering eases the burden on your family. We take care of the food, the drinks and the cleanup, so you can spend more time with the people you care about.

Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Mortuary participates in the Homeless Veterans Burial Program. Founded in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans of Foreign Wars, local medical examiners, coroners, veterans advocates and veterans organizations, the program provides homeless and indigent veterans with dignified and honorable military burials.

Honoring public servants

The Public Servants Program recognizes the courage and selflessness of career and volunteer law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency services personnel. Through the program, we offer dignified and honorable tributes—at no cost—for those who fall in the line of duty. In addition to providing burial services, the program also offers extended counseling services to family members and the opportunity to create a digital tribute as a loving memorial.

Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Memorial Gardens Cemetery

The manicured lawns of Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Memorial Gardens provide a beautiful final resting place and a peaceful respite for family and friends to remember and reflect.

Burial options for all

The cemetery has both in-ground and aboveground burial choices, including side-by-side and companion crypts, private estates and mausoleum entombment. There are also options for cremation.

Two outdoor mausoleums feature granite fronts and bronze inscriptions. The north mausoleum has a sandstone carving of the Good Shepherd. The artwork on the south mausoleum wall depicts the Last Supper. The Garden of Peace includes a beautiful niche bank and many flowering plants.

We care for our community

Our service to the community takes place year-round. In addition to special events during the year, we invite all widows and widowers to join us for the monthly luncheons that are part of our LIFT^® support group, which helps those who've lost loved ones connect with people in similar situations and make new friends.

Our team is also involved in many local and national organizations, such as American Legion; Tempe Chamber of Commerce; and the Arizona Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Association's Foundation for Children.

Memorial Day

Our Memorial Day service honors those who gave their lives in service to our country. Members from the American Legion help us host this popular event. Attendees are treated to a cookout lunch, flyovers of World War II planes by the Phoenix-based Falcon Warbirds and a battlefield cross ceremony. We also conduct a missing man table ceremony, which honors the memories of fallen, missing or imprisoned military members.

Día de los Muertos

During the first week of November, we host a popular Día de los Muertos celebration. More than 1,500 people join us to celebrate Mexican culture and support the spiritual journeys of those who have passed. Attendees of all ages enjoy face painting, arts and crafts, traditional sweets and hot chocolate. The day concludes with evening mass on the cemetery lawn.

Night of Remembrance

No matter your religion or culture, the December holidays can be a particularly emotional time for grieving families. We invite all families to our nondenominational Night of Remembrance, when we celebrate the lives of those lost throughout the year. On this night, they can gain a sense of peace from the healing power of community. Guests enjoy desserts, hot chocolate and seasonal music. Together, we hang ornaments with the names and photos of loved ones on our tree, light candles and conclude the night with a lantern release. Community leaders from many religious doctrines attend the event.

History

Originally, the cemetery (then known as Resthaven Park) was established in the early 1940s on 60 acres of picturesque open pasture. In 1997, a modern funeral home was opened on the cemetery grounds to further meet the needs of area families. From that moment on, people could arrange all their funeral and cemetery needs at these sister locations.

In 2005, the funeral home and cemetery joined with the Carr-Tenney Mortuary of Tempe to continue its commitment to the community. Established in 1905, Carr-Tenney Mortuary had been the first funeral service provider in the East Valley.

Today, as members of the Dignity Memorial^® network, Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Mortuary and Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Memorial Gardens give you not only the warm, familiar attention you expect from a locally owned funeral home and cemetery but also the value you deserve.
