Wilton H. Lines leaves a legacy of hard work and lots of family as he returns home. Wilton was born in Pima AZ on Dec. 31, 1917 and peacefully left this life on Sept. 28, 2013 in Yuma AZ. He was the oldest of 8 children born to Alvin and Allie Lines. Wilton went to grade school and High School in Pima, he went on to attend Gila Academy (now Eastern Arizona Junior College) where he loved sports more than anything else. He graduated with an AA in Bookkeeping. He did a variety of jobs in the Gila Valley from milking cows to being a night bookkeeper. He left for Los Angeles to attend Anderson Aircraft School, then went to work for Lockheed Aircraft. He joined the Navy during WWII, moved to Phoenix after the war, then came to Yuma to work for his brother-in-law, John Butler, at Butler Roofing. He eventually got his contractor's license and started his own construction company. When Johnny Butler decided to retire, Wilton bought his equipment and started Lines Roofing and Insulation (now Lines and Lundgreen Roofing and Insulation). After he retired he built 3 homes, started raising Mejool dates, then chickens, and became a beekeeper. He loved working and playing sports and did both as long as he could. He was always working and thinking about what he would do next.
In 1941 Wilton married Theda Butler in the Mesa Temple. Their first child, Leonda, was born during the war, and then LaNell came 2 years later. The family moved to Yuma where John, Alvin, Carol, Tom and Randy were born. Theda died in 1989.In 1990 Wilton married Mary Ann Bertrand and shared his life with her until she died in Nov. 2012. Wilton was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints where he served as a Scout Master, Branch President, Bishop, and High Councilor. He served 3 missions for the Church after he retired. One with Theda in Palmyria, New York and 2 in the Salt Lake Genealogical Center with Mary Ann. He served as a temple worker with Mary Ann for several years also. One of the hardest things for him was when he couldn't serve in the Church as much as he wanted to. But he was doing everything he could up until a few days before his passing.
He is survived by his children, Leonda Lines of Yuma; LaNell (Garry) Moore of Frankfurt, Germany and Bountiful, Utah; John (Claudia) Lines of Yuma; Alvin (Arlene) Lines of Boise, ID; Carol (Steve) Lundgreen of Yuma; Tom (Melanie) Lines of Winchester, CA; stepchildren Roxann (David) Staats of Yuma, and Edward Bertrand of Yuma. Also 42 grandchildren and 35 of their husbands and wives, along with 155 great-grandchildren. Wilton was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Theda Butler Lines, his son Randal, and his wife of 22 years, Mary Ann Bertrand Lines. Also, six of his brothers and sisters and his parents. He has taught many great lessons through his examples of hard work and service which he did with happiness and love. He is hard at work again now with those who have gone before.
