Gary Gordon Zondervan

He is the son of Harold and Dorothy Zondervan and was born on May 26, 1941 in Grandville, MI. He graduated from Unity Christian High School, received his BA from Calvin University and M.Ed from Michigan State University. On August 21, 1969, he married Mavis Assink in Lynden, WA, and they were married 52 years. Together they raised their two sons, Patrick (Melinda Ploeg) and Nathan (Melissa Vryhof) who both reside in Michigan with their families.

Gary was a charter member of the CrossPoint Christian Reformed Church in Chino, CA.

Gary supported his family well with a short teaching career at Ontario Christian School as well as 38 years with the Internal Revenue Service. After retirement he joined the part-time staff at John Elway’s Crown Toyota for nine years where he was a shuttle driver and friendly greeter for customers.

Gary was very involved in the sports program at Ontario Christian School and a longtime member of the Ontario Christian Athletic Boosters Club. He enjoyed announcing the OC football games and OC girls’ basketball games. He actively followed the sports programs of several schools & colleges, especially the University of Michigan.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law Jack Youells and Bob Koning, as well as his sister Nancy Zondervan. He is survived by his wife, Mavis, his two sons, Patrick (Melinda) and Nathan (Melissa), six grandchildren, and his sisters, Sally and Linda.
