Charles E. Cheatham, Jr., 49, of Yuma, AZ passed away on March 22, 2021 at YRMC with family by his side. He was born in Stockton, CA on September 12, 1971, and moved to Yuma as a teenager where he lived for the rest of his days. Charles was a well-loved member of the community and will be remembered by many for his kindness, smile, and love to tell stories. Many more people may recall seeing him riding his bike to the music stores in town throughout the years.
He was a proud graduate of Kofa High School and a diligent custodian at the Border Patrol station through the ACHIEVE program. Charles was proud of his job and always did his work every day with a smile and a story to brighten everyone’s day.
Charles was an active participant in the Special Olympics program for all of his time in Yuma and made many life-long friends at Special Olympics. He participated in almost every Special Olympics activity but he was most active in Bowling, Swimming, and Cheer.
Charles is preceded in death by his father, John A. Delpino, Sr. Charles is survived by his mother, Delores C. B. Delpino; his sister, Dejon C. Delpino, Esq.; and a host of loving brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also leaves behind his family in the Special Olympics and ACHIEVE program who have helped the immediate family greatly since his passing. He was a loving and kind man who will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
Let’s just put it like this, there’s a Charles shaped hole in the heart of Yuma.
Services will be held on April 16th at 9:00am in the Chapel at Johnson Mortuary & Desert Lawn Memorial Park at 1415 S 1st Avenue, Yuma, AZ 85364 with the burial at 11:00 am. The repass will follow at 12:00pm at the Cultural Center at Old St. Paul’s Church located at 645 S 2nd Avenue, Yuma, AZ 85364
