One of the world's greatest love stories came full circle June 28, 2011 when Barbara West peacefully and with much grace passed from this earth to rejoin her beloved Art as they travel on their next journey. Barbara was born August 5, 1929 in Oceanside, California.
She married the love of her life, Art West, in January 1949. Prior to Art's passing in 2006 they had been married for 58 years. Barbara and Art moved with their young family to Yuma in 1955 where they almost immediately became active in the community. Barbara was a member of the Lion's Women Club as well as a past president of the Yuma County Republican Women's Club. She also was involved in her children's school projects. Barbara had many careers during her life, but the one she cherished the most was being a wife, mother and good friend to so many.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Karen (Patrick) Griffin; sons, David (Amy) West and Steve (Patsy) West. She will be missed by her eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Don Taylor and a sister, Jean Pepiton.
Many thanks to all the wonderful caregivers that Barbara had through the last few years. A special thank you to the caring and supportive staff at BeeHive Assisted Living.
A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Johnson Mortuary chapel at 10:00A.M. Donations in Barbara's memory can be made to Assistance League of Yuma PO Box 4057, Yuma, AZ 85366 or Hospice of Yuma 1824 S. 8th Avenue, Yuma, AZ 85364. Mom-Rest in Peace. You will be missed and forever loved.
