Edward “Teddy” Cowen, a native Bermudian, joined his wife, Patsy, in Glory on the night of April 21, 2024. Ted was the 3rd of 4 children raised in the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse by Rudolph and Gladys Cowen. Ted would spend many evenings at the beach, or help his father with lighthouse chores before his family moved to “Little Down”. While he held a variety of jobs across the island, he most enjoyed his position at the Bank of Butterfield.
Ted relocated to New Jersey to become an ordained minister, where he met his wife of 59 years, Patsy (Cahall) Cowen. After completing missionary / pastoral work in Rhode Island, Alaska, Minnesota, and New Jersey, he returned with his family to pastor The Evangelical Church of Bermuda in Paget for 4 years. Ted was a true Bermudian with a passion for the ocean, boats, woodworking, and the island he called home. After settling in Arizona for continued ministry work to small churches, he became a successful self-employed handyman for the next 30 years.
Ted is survived by: His 3 children - Stephen Cowen, Timothy (Karen) Cowen, and Cathy (James) De Silva; his 9 grandchildren; and his 10 great-grandchildren. At his passing, Ted was surrounded by family, who he considered his greatest blessing. His life was lived with complete confidence in Psalm 48:14, “For this God is our God forever and ever: He will be our guide even unto death.” (KJV)
Ted will be laid to rest in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please donate to a missionary or missions organization of your choice.
