Nancy Jean Writer, 82, passed away peacefully at home in Ostrander, Ohio the morning of June 11, 2023, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was surrounded by her family. Nancy was born on May 15, 1941, to Emory and Lulu Jean Hoke and grew up in Dallastown, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cletus William Writer.
She graduated from Dallastown High School in 1959 and received an art scholarship to York Art Institute. She was employed by Tioga Mills in York, Pennsylvania, where she was a designer. On August 18, 1962 she married the love of her life, and together she and Cletus raised three children.
Over the course of 25 years, Nancy and Cletus ran a general contracting company where she served as the office manager. Nancy also led a Brownie Girl Scout Troop in Dallastown for many years. She was passionate about art and nature and enjoyed cooking. Her greatest love was spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. In their retirement, she and Cletus enjoyed vacations to the Outer Banks in North Carolina and many other places.
Nancy will be greatly missed by her children, Wm. Andrew (Amy) Writer of York, Pennsylvania, Melanie (Scott Norum) Writer of San Diego, California and Emily Writer (Tom) Frymyer of Ostrander, Ohio and her beloved grandchildren, Rachel Writer (John) Petrolias, Benjamin Writer, Meredith Frymyer, Mikaela Norum, Renae Frymyer, Jackson Norum, Wesley Frymyer and Paulina Frymyer; her sister Audrey Forbes of Ivoryton, Connecticut; and sister-in-law, Frances Writer of Pleasant Grove, Pennsylvania.
A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 11:00 am at Christ Lutheran Church, 126 W. Main St., Dallastown. Prior to the service, a visitation will be held at the church beginning at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, Nancy’s family requests that memorial donations be made to Ohio Health Hospice (800 McConnell Drive, Columbus, Ohio or online at www.foundation.ohiohealth.com/programs/hospice-giving).
