Rose O'Hara

She was born in Yonkers, NY on March 22, 1925, the daughter of the late Patrick and Mae O'Hara. Rose attended Yonkers schools and was employed by the Otis Elevator company in Yonkers for 36 years until the plant closed and she enjoyed an early retirement. She resided in Yonkers until moving to Newtown, CT 8 years ago to be closer to her family.

Rose enjoyed walks in Lennon Park with her dogs, and could always be found in the Lake Avenue vicinity. She looked forward to attending sporting events for her son and grandchildren and would sit there cheering loudly for them. Playing the numbers was her passion. Rose loved her pets, and cherished the time she spent with her family.

She is survived by her son Gordon Shine and his wife Kim of Newtown, CT, 5 grandchildren, Tara Shine of Liberty, NY, Kelly Shine of Staten Island, NY, Lauren O'Dell of Milton, NY, JR Shine and Danielle Shine both of Newtown, CT; 3 great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jenna Collins, and Christopher O'Dell, her sister-in-law Jacqueline O'Hara, and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her brothers Robert and Patrick, and a niece Ellen.

Visiting hours will be in the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Tuesday April 9th from 2-4 & 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be in Sacred Heart Church on Wednesday April 10th at 9:30am.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Angels of Sandy Hook Elementary, P.O. Box 3234, Newtown, CT 06470.
