Born on July 22, 1929 to William and Eva (Homyak) Blasko, he grew up in Yonkers and attended P.S. 24, Longfellow and Gorton High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1948-1955, rising to the rank of Radioman First Class. Bob worked for Western Union in lower Manhattan for many years, retiring in 1986. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Eva; his brother, William Blasko of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and his nephews, William “Buzzy” O’Toole, Richard Geri Blasko and Michael Lohrfink. He is survived by his sisters, Evelyn Zondorak and Ann Lohrfink; nephew, Jeffrey Lohrfink; nieces, Ruthan Scott, Robin O’Toole, Mary Ellen Zondorak, Valerie Zondorak, Lauren Olinek and Jennifer Morfea; fourteen grandnieces and grandnephews, three great-grand nieces and many cousins. Bob was the family historian and was famous for his family reunion parties and annual 4th of July pool party. He was an avid gardener, fireworks enthusiast and had a witty sense of humor. Bob kept the family together and passed on Slavic traditions to the younger generation through his love of cooking, family gatherings, traditional foods and polka music. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Avenue, Yonkers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 19th at St. Bartholomew’s Church, 15 Palmer Road, Yonkers with interment to follow at St. Josephs Cemetery, 209 Truman Avenue, Yonkers.
