Mattie R. Smith

Mattie was born on August 3, 1964 to Eugene Smith Sr. & Josephine Coleman Smith. She was the youngest of 10 children.

After being educated in the Yonkers Public School system, she went on to attend college for a little over a year. Though she did not graduate, she went on to work as an aide in the medical field for most of her adult life.

In 1996, she married her soulmate, Drew Thompson. Mattie was blessed with three daughters, Shaquana "Shay" Baker, Drewnesh "Drew" Thompson, Danny "Dee" Smith and one very special grandchild, Dylan "The Love of Her Life" Bates.

Mattie was the epitome of a free spirit and had a laugh that would lighten up any room graced with her presence. Mattie touched souls in ways like no other and this is because no matter what trial or tribulation she faced, she remained steadfast in her faith and open to life. And for that, people loved her.

Mattie leaves to cherish her memory: Her three daughters and a grandson. Three sisters, Marie Gannie, Gloria Coleman and Eleanor Brown. Three brothers, Anthony Coleman, Derrick Smith, Gary Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

She is predeceased by her mother, Pastor Josephine "Josie" Coleman Smith; her father Eugene "Smitty" Smith Sr.; two brothers, Eugene "Smit" Smith Jr. & Luther "Jimmy" Gannie Sr.; one sister Gwendolyn "Ninne" Glover; two nephews, Daniel Battle, Luther "Peanut" Gannie Jr. and her husband Drew Thompson.
