Miss Gerloff was a wonderful first grade teacher whom I fondly remember so many years later.  My condolences to the family.

I loved having her as my first grade teacher at Sacred Heart. She was very kind and loving to her students. My condolences to her family.

Mary Gerloff was a woman of faith.  In all that she did, in how she lived, spoke, and taught, her faith was evident and shared with all those lucky enough to encounter her. As a classroom teacher, she was a joyous professional who infused her Catholicity into everything that she taught. She loved being a Roman Catholic and she cherished the opportunity to share that experience with her young learners. She was a natural born teacher who brought to her learning environment all the elements necessary to empower each child to unlock their potential to grow and learn as an individual. In the parish, she was a lector at mass who added all the correct vocal inflections so that we the listeners could more fully understand the message behind the verse, and as a cantor, the beauty of Mary’s singing reminded us of the adage that when one sings, “you are praying twice.”
In Miss Gerloff’s quest to follow the “will of God,” she entered Religious life twice and spent time on the foreign mission in Japan and later, closer to home in New York. Although happy, neither experience seemed to be what God wanted. And Mary was always led back to Sacred Heart and her students, friends, and fellow parishioners. It seems that Mary discovered that her vocation was always right before her very eyes, and she happily embraced it until she was called home on April 6th.
One can only imagine what Mary’s entry into Heaven was like… For a humble Catholic school teacher who made many sacrifices to bring the Catholic faith to her young learners, we can be assured that all the promises of her sacramental life have been realized. Well done Good and Faithful Servant! I am sure there were many souls waiting to greet Miss Gerloff on “Heaven’s Blacktop.” Among them, Sister Hida was no doubt bouncing with delight. Mr. Sepi was of course smiling from ear-to-ear. And with love, Miss Slonski was most assuredly wanting to know what took you so long!

She gave to many organizations . God and religion were always first. A really good Sister in Law but a lousy picker of Scratchoffs.

Miss Gerloff was my first and second grade teacher, who taught me the love of reading,  words and the process. Her patience and keen sense of knowing did not go unrecognized by my six-year-old eye.

It was only this past weekend I was speaking of her with a friend and wondering, how is she?

I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers with gratitude.

Rest In Peace Miss Gerloff .  We have fond memories of having you as a teacher at Sacred Heart Grade School . You  were such a nice and helpful teacher . God bless you.   You will be in our prayers.  Our condolences and sympathy go out to Miss Gerloff’s Family.

I taught with Mary at Sacred Heart many years ago. She was my mentor and gently guided me along the way. I am so thankful she took me under her wing. To her students , she was a gentle, kind teacher. She instilled in them a love of learning.

Generations of children , now adults have become avid readers thanks to the enthusiasm and dedication of their first grade teacher. Thank you too Nary for the decades of beautiful music you shared at Sacred Heart with hundtreds of  its parishioners. You devotion to animals will homely be revived with your wishes and the new dedication of the NYPD.! Remember you can never really leave Sacred Heart. You are alive in those hundreds  of lives you touched on the hill. You will be missed.. God bless you for the many sacrifices and gifts shared with the Parishioners on the Hill.
