Julie was born on July 6, 1922 in Yonkers, NY to Michael and Mary Wansick. Julie was the youngest of 4 sisters. Julie was predeceased by her sisters Helen, Ann and Mary. She graduated from high school in Yonkers just as World War II was beginning. For most of the war years she worked in the Comptroller’s Office of the New York Central Railroad with an office in Grand Central Station. After the war ended, she met and fell in love with Harold J. McAvoy. Harold had just returned from service with the US Navy where he served as a Shipfitter and Hard Hat Diver on the USS Cincinnati (CL-6). Harold became a longtime member of Local 28 of the Sheet Metal Workers Union. Julie and Harold were married on November 20, 1949. Their first child, the late Gary J. McAvoy, was born in 1953. In 1955, the family moved into the home they purchased at 36 Kincaid Drive in the Crestwood Section of Yonkers. It was there that a daughter, Susan, joined the family. Harold passed away in 1993 and Julie remained in the Kincaid Drive home until 2007 when she moved to Northern Virginia. Julie is survived by her daughter, Susan (Ed) Matthews of Fairfax Station, Virginia. Julie absolutely adored her 4 grandchildren: Ed Matthews of Los Angeles, CA; Kristen (Chris) Spicer of Springfield, VA; Stephen Matthews of Los Angeles, CA; and Kimberly (Jackson) Snyder of Mechanicsville, VA as well as her great granddaughter, Sloane Elizabeth Spicer of Springfield, VA. She is also survived by her nephew, Dr. George (Kris) Kantor of Palm Beach, FL. Julie will always be remembered as the “life of the party.” She loved dancing and singing, not to mention an occasional adult beverage or two. Viewing will be private for the immediate family with a graveside for Julie on Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Jackson Ave. & Saw Mill River Road, Hastings on Hudson, NY 10706. The family hopes you can attend the graveside and ask that you arrive at the Mt. Hope Cemetery Office prior to 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, Julie would ask that you consider a donation to the Hospice at Goodwin House Falls Church, 3440 South Jefferson, Falls Church, VA 22041
