Joseph Yaroschak

Joseph Yaroschak, a lifelong Yonkers resident, died on Monday May 4, 2015 at St. John’s Riverside Hospital. He was 81 years old. He was born on March 13, 1934 to Joseph and Anastasia Jurichko Yaroschak in Yonkers (the youngest of five children) where he was raised and educated graduating from Saunders Trade & Technical School. Mr. Yaroschak was a real estate researcher for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in New York City for over thirty years until his retirement. He was also employed by the Green Valley Nursery in Hawthorne for twenty five years until he became sick in 2014. Mr. Yaroschak served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He achieved the rank of AEM-3, was stationed in the United States and received the National Defense Medal. He was a longtime member of VFW Post 1666 in Yonkers. He was also a member of the Slovak Club on Lockwood Ave. in Yonkers where he was the secretary. He enjoyed playing golf. On July 2, 1955, he married his first wife, Dolores Masick in Yonkers. She died on March 3, 1974. On May 13, 1978, he married Carol Sessions Roche in Yonkers. She survives and lives in Yonkers. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Joseph Yaroschak of Yonkers, two daughters, Mary Schwalbe and her husband Mike of Lake George, N.Y. and Gloria Gray of Hyde Park, N.Y., three step children, James Roche and his wife Antoinette of Mahopac, Kathleen Cristantiello and her husband Louis of Yonkers and Patrick Roche and his wife, Ellen of Hopewell Junction, one brother, Andrew Yaroschak of Suffern and three sisters, Mary Robinson of Florida, Anne Cobelli of Yonkers and Helen Sessions and her husband James of Yonkers. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, one great grandson and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a stepson, John Roche. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Thursday 3-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Anthony’s Church on Friday May 8th at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
