Joseph Giannelli of Yonkers died on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at age 89. Born on January 12, 1923 to Antonio and Anna (Pepe) Giannelli where he was raised and graduated from Saunders High School. Mr. Giannelli was a self-employed machinist with J & E Machinery in Hastings. On August 16, 1947 he married Betty Denness in Sacred Heart Church, she survives. Joseph was a World War II Army Veteran; involved with the European Campaign in Germany. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart; stationed with General Patton’s 3rd Army; member of the Alan F. Waite Post and the 101st . Infantry Reunion in Buffalo. He was parishioner of Sacred Heart, former president of the 6th Ward Republican Party, former president of Weston Park Civic Association, Holy Name Society member, and founding member of the North Yonkers Boys and Girls Club. Besides his wife Betty, he is survived by his three sons; Joseph (Tina) of Rhode Island; Denis (Marge) of Yonkers and Tony (Mary Beth) of Yonkers, also, eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren and his brother Frank. He was predeceased by seven sisters; Angela Montone; Bernadetta Rondanone; Josephine Rondanone, Immaculata Giannella, Ida Russack and Francesca and Antionetta Giannelli. Visiting hours will be at the Whalen and Ball Funeral on Wednesday, December 5th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be in Sacred Heart Church on Thursday, December 6th at 9:30 a.m. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
