Harold was born on August 19, 1931, the son of Harold P. Eiden, Sr. and Sarah Burke. He was the middle of three children-- older sister Margaret (Kelly) and younger brother John. He graduated from Saunders Trades and Technical High School in 1949 and was drafted to serve in the US Army in 1952. While in the Army, he worked as a heavy equipment operator, helping to expand Edwards Air Force Base in California. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1954. In June 1954, Harold married the love of his life, Marion McCormack. Family and faith were two very important aspects of Harold’s life. Whether it was helping to raise his new sisters-in-law or driving the family doctor to a house call in a warm car, Harold never said no to anyone who needed his help. Harold, Chuck, or Bud (as he was also known) owned Berg’s Reliable Service Station on Central Ave for 40 years and upon his retirement, was a Receiving Clerk at Lawrence Hospital, as well as a Warehouse Clerk at Columbia University Press. He was very active in the Christ the King Parish, serving as an usher, Holy Name Society president, and PTA president.
Most important of all to Harold was his family. He was most proud of his four grandchildren and treasured his time with them.
Harold is survived by his sons Peter (Margaret) of White Plains and Paul (Deborah) of Mount Kisco, his sister-in-law Gail Olsen of Jarrettsville, MD and his grandchildren Joseph, Elizabeth, Kaylie and Matthew.
Harold is predeceased by his loving wife Marion, sister Margaret Kelly, brother-in-law John Kelly, brother John, sister-in-law Margaret Jano, brother-in-law John Olsen, niece Kathryn Krug, and nephew Eric Olsen.
The family would like to thank Mary, Lilly and Ana, whose care and companionship were instrumental in allowing Harold to live as independently as he did in recent years, despite his mobility and vision issues.
Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Thursday, April 24 from 3-7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Christ the King Church on Friday, April 25 at 10am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
