Farah Ayed Hattar, 78 a long-time resident of Yonkers, passed away on October 18, 2012 surrounded by his loving wife of fifty years, Miriam Hattar, and adoring family. Farah was born on January 9, 1934 in Jerusalem to the late Ayed and Fadeyah Hattar, and raised in Jordan. He served as a civilian officer in the British Army and Jordanian Army during the 1950’s . Farah married his amazing wife, Miriam, in 1962 in Jordan and came to the United States later that year. He was one of the original Hattars to come to the United States and to assist numerous family members and friends in emigrating to the United States. Farah was employed for over forty years by the Stewart Stamping Company in Yonkers and was well respected and admired by his friends and colleagues. Farah stressed the importance of hard work and education to his family. Through his unconditional love and support, he helped his eight children to achieve college degrees and advanced degrees. Farah loved his family and was extremely proud of the vast accomplishments of his children. Farah was a truly courageous, humble, kind and compassionate person, who always put his family first and was committed to making his community a better place. He instilled these values in his children and grandchildren. Farah was a devoted and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was also passionate about gardening, spending hours in his garden especially during the summer. Farah was a long-time parishioner and supporter of St. Mary’s Good Shepherd Church in Yonkers. In addition to his wife, Miriam of Yonkers, Farah is survived by his beloved children, Samar Hattar of Yonkers, Irene Jacobson of Purchase, Jacqueline Hattar of Eastchester, Marlene Masiello of the Bronx, Christine Montero of Yorktown, Linda Ciarletta of Eastchester, Samir Hattar of Yonkers, and Ronald Hattar of Yorktown. Farah’s memory is also cherished by his fourteen grandchildren, Jennifer, Nancy, Kelly, Christopher, Jillian, Michael, Brandon, John, Jr., Julia, Anthony, Alexa, Ava, Alexandra, and Christian. Additionally, he is survived by his sons-in-law, Mike, Jeff, John, Ray and Anthony, and his daughters-in-law, Nicole and Pia. He is also survived by his two sisters, Theresa Hassan of Yonkers and Yvon Saman of Amman, Jordan as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers, Fahed, Hanna, Kamal and Saleem, and sisters, Elise and Noel. A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Farah on Monday, October 22nd, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Good Shepherd Church in Yonkers, N.Y. The interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Yonkers. The family will receive friends on Saturday and Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Whalen and Ball Funeral Home.
