She was born June 26, 1940 in the Bronx, NY, the second of five children born to the late James and Margaret (nee Breen) Waters. She loved nothing more than the chaos of being in her childhood home on Powell Avenue in the Bronx with her large extended family. At the prompting of her older brother, she went to a party in the Bronx and met the love of her life Tom Terry at the age of 20. They were married in 1963 and moved to Yonkers together where they raised their three children Tom (Jennifer), Brian (Tricia) and Barbara Jean. One of their most beloved roles was as Nana and Pop to their 7 grandchildren, Grace (Collin), Erin, Patrick (Alanna),
Kelsey, Colleen, Claire and Jack.
Barbara graduated from Aquinas high school and then earned her nursing degree from Misericordia and was very proud to have worked helping patients for over 30 years. She had a deep faith and worshipped most of her life at Sacred Heart and Christ the King Parishes in Yonkers. She and Tom created a beautiful life together full of laughter, family, amazing trips with her siblings and their spouses, and endless walks together at Tibbett’s Park in Yonkers, the beaches of Sag Harbor and most recently Untermyer Park.
Barbara was pre-deceased by her beloved daughter Barbara Jean, her sister Margaret; and brothers, James, Donald (aka Bucky) and John. We are all comforted that the Waters “Fab Five” are all together again.
Barbara is survived by her husband Tom, sons Tom (Jennifer) and Brian (Tricia) and 7 grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister’s in law, Patricia Waters, Jane Waters and Jeanne Waters, and brother in law John Knoblich. As well as dozens of nieces and nephews and cousins.
Memorial gifts in Barbara’s memory may be made to Wartburg Memory Care where she received the most amazing love and care over the last four years. https://wartburg.org/donate/
