Anna Marcin

Anna Marcin was an immigrant who cherished her citizenship. She was born in Yugoslavia in 1929. When she was a small child her youth was shattered by the onset of WWII. After her family home was destroyed by bombs she and her family fled Yugoslavia and spent the following years living in several different displaced persons camps. In 1948 Anna traveled to Halifax Canada as a contract worker. After the conclusion of her contract she was hired as a seamstress and reunited with her family. Together they built a home in Montreal. At a Slavic dance in Montreal she met her future husband, Francis Marcin. He was on medical leave after suffering severe injuries as a U.S. Army Sargent in the Korean War. They had a short courtship, and 1 month later they married and moved to Yonkers, NY. Together they built a home and had 2 children, a son Frank and a daughter Teri. They were then blessed with five grandchildren, Siobhain, Francis, Alexandria Marcin, Mia and Cara Colao. Her husband Francis passed away in 1990. Anna then remained in her home until her peaceful passing. The events of WWII remained a vivid memory that haunted her daily. Although burdened with the past, she was able to find joy in her home, her garden and most of all her grandchildren. Visiting hours will be in the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Friday from 4-8pm. Funeral service will be on Saturday at 10am. Interment will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley, NY.
