Vance B. Kegley (81) of Yakima, WA passed away on April 19th 2024 peacefully and with grace; much the way he lived his life. For those blessed to know Vance as a husband, father, brother, uncle, or friend, all mourn the loss of a wonderful man of faith, love, and service.
Vance was born in Spokane, WA August 23, 1942 to Vance and Eileen Kegley. Vance grew up in Chewelah, WA. At 15, he began his high school education at Mt. Angel Seminary in Oregon, then attended college at St. Thomas Seminary in Kenmore, WA. His personal and vocational path took an obvious detour when he met the love of his life, Linda Sue Bickel, in 1971.
Vance and Sue married in Walla Walla, WA in 1972 and moved to Portland, OR where he started his 25-year career as a Federal Probation Officer and, more importantly to Vance, had their first of two children, Jennifer. After a transfer to Yakima in 1974, they welcomed their son Brian, and their family was complete.
Vance was as productive in his long retirement as he had been in his educational and professional life. He was a master woodworker; you could always find him happiest in his shop. He blessed his family with countless pieces of furniture that will continue to fill their homes with his presence for generations to come. He was a dedicated volunteer for Yakima’s Habitat for Humanity Re-Store where he was given the Golden Hammer Award to honor his many years of volunteer service. Vance also worked with Yakima Hospice Care as a volunteer visitor.
Vance’s family would like to thank the Thursday guys group who gathered with Vance every Thursday for coffee and donuts throughout his time in memory care. And to Ree Kearns for bringing him Holy Communion every Sunday. They will be forever grateful for the generosity of their time and fellowship. The family would also like to thank the staff at Izzy’s Adult Family Home and Fieldstone Memory Care for their outstanding care.
Vance is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sue, daughter Jennifer Brownlow (Steve), son Brian Kegley (Kristen); “Papa” to grandchildren Kate Brownlow, Dayne Brownlow, Peterson Kegley, and Paige Kegley. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Vance was preceded in death by his parents Vance and Eileen Kegley and brothers Richard Kegley and William Kegley of Spokane, WA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Vance on Wednesday May 8th at 10:30 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Yakima. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.keithandkeith.com. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Yakima affiliate of Habitat for Humanity or Memorial Foundation Hospice
