Sandra Bjur was called home to God on April 11, 2011 at the age of 51. She was born in Yakima on December 6, 1959 to Robert and Jean Bjur. She was raised in the Zillah area and attended schools in Toppenish. Sandy grew up on the back of a horse. She trained and showed Arabian horses with her sisters throughout her youth. She was a long-time member of the Parker Heights Dust Raisers 4-H club. She won many competitions on her horse, Serfix.
After graduating from Toppenish High School, Sandra attended Eastern Washington University and later transferred to Yakima Valley Community College to complete her degree in X-Ray technology. She worked as an X-Ray technician at Toppenish Hospital and later at Palm Desert Hospital in Palm Springs, California. Health problems eventually prevented her from being able to do this type of work and she returned to work on the family farm in Zillah where she worked with her brothers, Gary and Ron. Sandra enjoyed being out on the farm and assisting in all aspects of the business. Sandy loved to nurture animals, flowers, plants, and trees. She enjoyed working with the farm crew and her sense of humor during harvest kept everyone laughing.
Sandra was never happier than when she gave birth to her daughter, Breanna Jean Bjur. She loved being a mother and she felt God truly blessed her with a beautiful baby girl. She later married Jesse Schindler and they were blessed with a son, Shane Allen Schindler, who was the apple of her eye. For a time, Sandy and Jesse raised Breanna and Shane along with her four step-children. Sandy loved to take the kids out to the farm to ride horses and four-wheelers.
As Sandy's health problems worsened, her faith in God was made stronger. She loved attending the Full Gospel Church to hear Brother Bill's sermons and enjoy hand-clapping, foot-tapping gospel music. She always enjoyed sharing her faith with others and would bring them to church. Sandy was assured in her faith and was ready to go when God took her hand.
Sandra is survived by her children, Breanna Bjur and Shane Schindler; her mother, Jean Bjur; her husband, Jesse Schindler; step-children, Darlene Ramos, Jesse, Jr., Kahle, and Jeremiah Schindler; sisters, Susan Kinzel, Laura Matzen, and Joann Schaan; brothers, Gary, Ron, and Brian Bjur; numerous nieces and nephews, and lastly, her beloved dachshunds, Bonnie and Macky. She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Bjur; brother, Wayne Bjur; and brothers-in-law, Randy Colton and James Kinzel.
Our time on earth is limited and short, according to the narrow bounds of this earth. But Heaven cannot be measured, nor the days of Heaven numbered. Sandy is resting now in eternal peace.
In lieu of flowers, please consider planting a rose bush or tree in honor of Sandy. She would also be honored by donations made to the Humane Society or local pet rescue program.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Full Gospel Church at 2120 South 3rd Avenue on Monday, April 18, 2011 at 11:00 AM. To share a memory visit, www.keithandkeith.com. Arrangements are in the care of Keith and Keith Funeral Home.
