Ruby “Eloise” Collins passed away peacefully on September 28, 2018 in Yakima, Washington at the age of 92. She was a beloved and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Eloise was born in Hamilton, Alabama to George and Bessie Carter on November 23, 1925.
Eloise married John E. Collins on December 28, 1948 in San Louis Obispo, California. John passed away in 2014 after 66 ½ years of marriage. She retired from Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital, where she was a supervisor in the dietary department. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church.
She will be remembered for putting her family first, doing whatever she could to help and support them. One of her greatest passions was cooking for others. She especially enjoyed hosting holidays for family and friends. Some of her most requested dishes were chicken and dumplings, enchiladas, turkey dinners, and delicious pies. She was also an accomplished seamstress. Eloise had a strong work ethic and worked hard her entire life, right up until the time of her passing.
Eloise is survived by her daughters, Kim Vorheis (Brian) of Yakima, Terri Akins (Mike) of Grandview, one grandson, Gabriel (Shawna) of Richland, and great granddaughter, Peyton. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, her parents, and four siblings.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 6th at 10:00 a.m. at Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel, with burial following at Calvary Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Highgate Senior Living and The Cottage in the Meadow for their loving, caring, and compassionate care for her and her family. We would also like to thank our very dear friend, Emily Lick, who was always there for Mom and the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Union Gospel Mission of Yakima or The Cottage in the Meadow of Yakima.
With all our love, may you rest in peace, Mom. We love you and miss you!
