Roger D. McIntyre

Roger was born on August 1, 1939 in Bridgewater, SD. He grew up on a family farm raising livestock and crops in Canistota, SD. He was educated in a one room schoolhouse. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Albert McIntyre, and eldest grandson, Clayton Kester.

He married Jo Ann Jurgens in 1963 and moved to Yakima, WA in 1964. Roger worked as a steel fabricator and iron worker at Central Steel and Tank, and FMC Corp. He spent many hours in his shop designing and building from metals and woods. Dad was as precise with a tape measure as he was with his life. He also owned McIntyre’s Sharpening.

Roger was a devoted Christian and served as a member, as well as a Deacon, at First Presbyterian Church. He volunteered at Camp Ghormley and Union Gospel Mission. He was a man of few words, a man of his word, and generous by nature to others. Dad enjoyed life with his family, friends, gardening, fishing, music, dancing, and reading the Bible. Dad stressed the importance of having family dinner together. Many memories were made around the dinner table. He was often heard throughout his day whistling a cheerful tune.

He is survived by his three children, Rick McIntyre, Kathy Kester, and Kevin (Darcee) McIntyre; three grandchildren, Garrett Kester and Markus and Maddison McIntyre; and three siblings of SD, Dorothy Van Emmerick, Audrey (Randy) Christensen, and Dwayne (Kathi) McIntyre.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church in Yakima, WA.
