With the love of his family, Bob passed away Wednesday morning.
He was born in Yakima, WA to Dr. Paul J. Lewis and Mrs. Ruth Jones Lewis.
Bob attended Yakima High School where he enjoyed and excelled on the ski team. He then attended University of Washington where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. Bob was an accomplished skier in downhill, slalom, ski jumping and cross country winning all of them in a single meet at the Washington State Championships.
His education was interrupted when he joined the Army Air Corps in 1943. He learned to fly P-40 Warhawks at Luke Air Base in Arizona. When the war ended during his training, he returned to University of Washington to graduate.
Bob met the love of his life, Jean, while attending University of Washington. They were married on Dec. 27, 1948. They immediately started their family which grew to four children.
Bob began his construction career at Paul A. Cook Construction in 1958. He went on to become partner in Cook Lewis Construction in 1961. In 1987, Bob formed R.P. Lewis Construction Company.
He was widely involved in his community service which included, among others, Yakima Downtown Rotary, where he received a Paul Harris Fellow, a past president of the Yakima Chamber of Commerce, a founding member of Pioneer National Bank; a founding member and past president of White Pass Ski Company.
Bob had many hobbies including skiing, coaching skiing, and rally car racing. He was an accomplished pilot including flying Jean to Mexico and Central America. Boating was a family pastime, with trips around the Puget Sound, and water skiing in Central Washington. Traveling was another favorite activity as he and Jean took many trips around the world together.
Bob was preceded in death by son Paul Lewis, sister Pauline McLean, and sister Mary Fagan. He is survived by Jean (Hall) Lewis, Diane (Pat) Carey, John (Nancy) Lewis and Ross Lewis, as well as four grandchildren and one great grandson.
