Richard (Dick) Schut

Richard Mervin Schut died peacefully in the arms of his wife Mary Lou, with his children, grandchildren and sisters by his side at Cottage in the Meadow on Sunday April 17, 2016 in Yakima, Washington, at the age of 79.

Dick is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Lou; daughter Carla Schut Brown of Yakima; daughter Sheila Black (Ken) of Yakima; and son Evan Schut (Heather) of Covington; sisters Sharon Scheiber and Rhonda Cardona, both of Yakima and brother Michael Schut (Joan) of Chewelah. He is also survived by his grandchildren BreAnne Story (Tyler), Nicole Smith, Conner and Avery Black, Calvin, Cameron, and Chris Schut, great grandson Joseph Story, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dick was born on July 31, 1936 in Yakima, Washington to Richard and Juanita Schut. He graduated from Highland High School in 1954 and then attended Yakima Business School. He served in the Army Reserve for 8 years. He married Mary Lou DeRiese, his high school sweetheart, in 1957 and together they lived in the Yakima area. He worked for over 30 years in the grocery industry as a Sales Representative.

Dick enjoyed many hobbies including woodworking, landscaping, traveling, and watching the Seattle Mariners. Singing was a great joy in his life and he was a member of the Yakima Camerata Club for over 60 years and sang for many years in the church choir. He was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities.

The viewing will be on Friday April 22nd from 5 to 7 pm at Langevin • El Paraiso Funeral Home and the interment will be held on Saturday April 23rd at 10:00 am at West Hills Memorial Park with a celebration of life service following at 11:00 am at Wesley United Methodist Church. Donations in his memory may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church or the Yakima Camerata Club. The family would like to thank the staff of Cottage in the Meadow for their loving care.
