As a family, we grieve the loss of our mother who we have been blessed with for over 88 years.
Peggy was born April 13, 1934, in Lead Hill, Arkansas. She was born during the Depression years in a town of less than 100 people. Her love for her hometown never left her. She was raised in humble surroundings where friends and family came together to support one another. A common comment of hers was, “We grew up very poor but we didn’t know it. Everyone around us were in the same circumstances. We didn’t know anything different”.
The Croswhite family left Arkansas for the Yakima Valley and made the Cowiche area their home. Peggy attended and graduated from Highland High School. Soon after graduating she met her husband, Lorain Walker, and married in 1953. Lorain was drafted and sent to Tokyo, Japan, shortly after marriage. Soon after his departure she took an ocean freighter on a two week sailing to join him and soon became mother to their first born, Michael.
In 1960, their 2nd child was born, David. In 1963, their 3rd child was born, Janice.
Peggy loved being a wife and mother. She was the most kind hearted and loving mother a child could hope for. In the 1970’s she purchased the Hillcrest Dress Shop, successfully running it for 16 years. She had no business training yet managed to maintain a highly regarded boutique with exclusive lines. This was an accomplishment she was proud of, and so was her family. Over the years, she and her husband enjoyed many wonderful vacations and living the winters in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
After Lorain's passing, Peggy learned to love football. She cheered loud, yelled at bad plays and would literally jump out of her chair when a long ball was thrown. Her kids bought her lots of Seahawk gear which she would deck herself out in even if she never left the house. She was always trying to learn more about the game.
If you knew Peggy, you knew she loved the casino. Quite the “Slot Jockey”, her most exciting win was $11,000, she smiled for days after her big win.
Preceded in death by her husband (Lorain Walker); parents (Aster and Agnes Croswhite); siblings (Anna Pauline Purdum, Freddie Croswhite, Bill Croswhite, Betty Peckman, John Croswhite, James Croswhite).
Survived by her children, Mike Walker (Sheila); David Walker (Mollye); Janice Walker (Tim). Her grandchildren, Jacob Walker (Paige); Jordan Walker (Jessica); Jess Saxton (Kim); Joshua Saxton (Darcy); Jacob Carlson (Nevada); Tyler Carlson, Ashley Leder, Amy Leder.
