Marion “Nana” Hiebert, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 24, 1939, in Brooks, Alberta, Canada, to her late parents, Pauline and George Cyr, Marion grew up alongside her siblings, Raymond, and her late brothers, Howard and Ed Cyr.
Marion’s life was filled with devotion to her family and her Catholic faith, which grounded her throughout her life. Her unwavering belief in God provided her with strength, comfort, and hope, and she shared that faith through her actions, kindness, and love. She was an example of grace, humility, and compassion, inspiring those around her to live with purpose and integrity.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Doyle Hiebert, and together they built a life on the farm, creating countless cherished memories. The farm was the heart of their family life, a place where her children and grandchildren gathered to play, learn, and grow. Though her great-grandchildren did not have the chance to experience the farm firsthand, they have heard the many stories of joy, hard work, and love that defined Marion’s time there, preserving her legacy in their hearts. Marion also loved spending time with her nieces and nephews and welcoming countless family friends into her home, always making everyone feel loved and cared for.
Marion was a gifted seamstress who poured love into every stitch. She made clothes, doll clothes, and quilts for everyone in the family, collecting every possible material to ensure her creations were unique and thoughtful. Her quilts, in particular, became treasures for her loved ones, wrapping them in the warmth of her love long after they left her arms.
Known as the family cook, Marion ensured every meal was made with love and care. Her grandchildren especially cherished dinnertime, as Nana always made sure they got whatever they wanted, making each meal a special memory. Her kitchen was a place of joy, laughter, and full bellies, reflecting the heart and soul she put into her family.
Marion had a passion for gardening, spending countless hours tending to her flowers and vegetables, finding peace and pride in her vibrant blooms and bountiful harvests. She was an expert at canning fruit, turning her garden’s yield into delicious preserves that became a staple at family meals and a reminder of her love.
Her greatest accomplishment and source of pride was her role as a mother to her four children: Mike, Jeff (Faith), Karen, and Cheryl (Buddy). She adored her grandchildren—Jamie (Krystal), Shanell, Jennifer (Kyle), Sarah (Mark), Harley, Zachary, and Alecktre—and reveled in the joy of hearing about the lives of her great-grandchildren: Jesse, Jacob, Jeffrey, Lila, Aubree, Dallas, Eliza, and Henry.
Marion brought joy and humor to every gathering, whether through entertaining her grandchildren or by playing games—sometimes delightfully inappropriate—that became treasured family traditions. Known for her ability to “keep secrets from moms,” she shared a special bond with her grandchildren, offering them a haven of fun and unconditional love.
Marion also worked in the school library, where her love of books and her nurturing nature inspired countless children. Her contributions to her community extended beyond her family and farm, touching the lives of many who were drawn to her kindness and warmth.
Her love for Elvis Presley and angels reflected her joy in life’s simple pleasures, but it was her faith that truly defined her. Marion’s steadfast devotion guided her through every challenge and triumph, leaving her family with a legacy of hope, resilience, and unshakable love.
Marion’s legacy will live on in the memories of those who knew and loved her. Her compassion, wit, and unwavering dedication to her faith and family will remain an inspiration to all.
May she rest peacefully, reunited with Doyle, her parents, her brothers Howard and Ed, and the many loved ones who went before her. Her family takes solace in knowing she is now among the angels she loved so much, watching over them with her warm, gentle spirit.
