Monday, October 14, 2024, Madge Carol (Friend) Roebuck transitioned to her heavenly body after a fierce battle with Alzheimer's, at Chandler House, Yakima, Washington.
On September 10, 1941, in Charles City, Iowa, Madge was born to Gladys Leona (Lloyd) Friend, and Albert Ned Friend. She was the youngest of her sisters, Patricia and Lorraine.
The family moved to Minneapolis Minnesota, where Madge loved ice skating, and roller skating, then to California. She met the love of her life, Ray Allen Roebuck, at the drive-in movie where "Jail House Rock" with Elvis Presley was playing. Madge and Ray were married on Sunday, November 9, 1958, in Tijuana, Mexico. The news of this secret union was kept from the family for several weeks. Blessed with 65 years of happy marriage and four incredible, smart, beautiful children, Ray II (Chip), Tracy, Calvin (Cal), and Samuel (Sam).
In 1969, they moved to Washington from California. Madge was a wonderful stay-at-home mom, known for her excellent spaghetti and chicken enchiladas. Many fond memories were made in Ellensburg at the "game farm" on a 5-acre property. The family had a cow, a calf, a horse, two dogs, a few cats, some rabbits, and a riding lawnmower!
In the early 1980s, the family moved to Yakima. They lived in their home on 49th Avenue for 30 years until all the children were, grown, left home, and began their own families. The couple would take their motorhome on many vacations often visiting relatives. Ray retired and they purchased a home in Sun Country Estates.
Madge was active in the community; she helped organize and sang with a group, "Anything Goes," at many retirement homes, venues, and functions. She was an avid bingo player at St. Joseph's, attending with many great friends and family. Win or lose, they had fun! Another hobby she enjoyed was bowling, and she was even a part of a league. She sang and competed with "Sweet Adeline's" for many years. She loved playing cards with friends and relatives and belonged to a ladies' card club.
Madge's family was her EVERYTHING. She leaves behind her loving husband, Ray, and her four children, Chip (Shari), Tracy, Cal (Stephanie), and Sam, along with 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death are her parents, Gladys and Albert Friend, and her sisters, Patricia (Pat) and Lorraine (Lori).
What an empty space that will be left at the table. Madge leaves so many memories that will be long remembered by her family and friends. She was an adored, beautiful soul. We love you, Madge. Enjoy your new home where you have no more pain and send us a butterfly. Visitation will be open from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM on Friday November 1 at Keith and Keith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. A reception will follow with burial at 2:00 at the IOOF cemetery in Ellensburg, 1900 Brick Road Ellensburg, WA please leave a memory for the family or share a picture on this site.
