Laurel Leigh Hayes

Laurel Leigh Hayes began her journey in life on November 15th, 1961 born to Martha and Lester Boyce in Omak, Washington. Laurel was the youngest of three sisters, Sherri Colleen preceded her in death on April 28th, 2014 and Roni Marie, currently living at the Salton Sea in California. Laurel passed away in her own home due to a short illness on April 26th, 2024.

Laurel met her first husband Steven Leroy Breitgham at West Valley High School. They were together for many years. Their first child, Jami Tishan Breitgham, was born February 22, 1982 and their second child, Steven Lee Breitgham, was born on October 9, 1987.

She was lucky enough at age 27 to hit the Washington State Lottery while working as the manager for her parents’ local 7-11 store on 40th & Nob Hill Avenues. Laurel and Steve’s family life changed tremendously, making their life much easier.

Laurel loved to collect salt & pepper shakers, ships and black roses. She spent the last few years of her life caring for her mother, Martha Gapen. Her free time was visiting with the many friends she had made and playing games on the computer.

Laurel is preceded in death by her father, Lester Boyce, and her sister, Sherri Smotherman. She is survived by her mother, Martha Gapen, her sister, Roni Hewitt, her children, Jami and Lee Breitgham, along with her 7 grandchildren and best friend Randy Kearns.

The family will be holding a Celebration of Life on May 11, at 1:00 PM at the Ahtanum Youth Park, Section Central 3. There is a $2 fee for parking. This event is a potluck so please bring a dish of some kind. All family and friends are welcome.
